President Trump Is Standing Up For Americans

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (CA-23) joined President Trump today as Phase 1 of a new trade pact between the United States and China was signed. As Leader McCarthy said this morning on CNBC, "We are stronger today than we were before."

McCarthy released the following statement on this significant achievement, which will increase access to markets, benefit our farmers, and strengthen protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in China:

"China has taken advantage of the United States for years. The failure to address this has put our workers and our innovations at a disadvantage.

"President Trump was elected to stand up for Americans and fight for the fairness our country deserves. Since taking office, he has done exactly that.

"Today is a significant achievement -- the first phase of negotiations will increase access to markets, help our hardworking farmers, and strengthen protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in China. China now must live up to the commitments made in this deal.

"For months, I was confident that if we passed the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement, it would strengthen our hand in negotiations with China. Within less than a month of passing the USMCA out of the House, we are coming together again to celebrate today's progress in holding China accountable."
